My first destination!

Hi again =)

Today was a lot of fun! The Great Barrier Reef in Queensland is huge and I'm really excited! The weather wasn't too good today but I was glad it didn't rain! This reef has the largest collection of living reefs in the world. Yeah that's right reef"s". It has been discovered that there are many reefs strung together off the coast, although referred to collectively as "The Reef". The reef covers a huge area of the shallow sea bed. It extends for about 2000km along the coast and stretches into the coral sea for up to 300km. There are great cruises you can go on and good places for snorkeling and seeing the amazing sea life in this reef. It is wonderland of living organisms. The reef itself is alive. Unfortunately, scientists have some concern about the health and longevity of the reef with the effect of climate change.

The Great Barrier Reef has up to 900 islands with a distance of 2,600 kilometres, over an area of approximately 344,400 square kilometres. This large reef can be seen from far distances and has the worlds biggest structure for underwater creatures. The Great Barrier Reef has a large diversity of life and was chosen to be a world heritage site in 1981. People refer to this reef as the state icon of Queensland. I think they're right! And I'm glad I got to go on this amazing trip!
